True talent

Yesterday I was walking down the street and found myself thinking about how sad I’d be to learn that Amy Winehouse wasn’t nearly as good a singer as I believed her to be. (Really, that’s about as cerebral as I get.) So last night, no matter how much the outcome might hurt me, I decided to try to find out if she’s a studio sweetened girl or really does sing that well. I can only say that I was relieved and elated by what I found.

Her phrasing, that’s not the kind of thing they can gin up in the studio, seems to me. Sorry, “gin up.” Anyway, she’s great when she’s not obliterated.
Great stuff, so great I needed to add an eyeliner sentence to what I’m wriiting.
Also, was she chewing gum as she sang? Perfect.
You can fake phrasing in the studio, but it’s such a time-consuming process that it’s cheaper just to get an astounding singer.
Winehouse is very good indeed, but I have to say I’ve been more impressed by Corinne Bailey Rae lately.
D’oh! Yeah, that’s… that’s what I meant probably…
Corinne Bailey Rae is boring. Amy is the first singer to capture my affections in a loooong time.
