Update on my attackers

The loser who assaulted me today

Originally uploaded by dynamist.

I’m rushing out the door to an appointment (and taking the exact same route I did when I was assaulted, as it happens), but here’s a quick update: I got a call from the police this morning, who told me that the same two scumbags who attacked me also beat up a gay guy and knocked his tooth out. Charming little scamps, eh?

I can’t put into words how angry I am about this, so I won’t even try. (I was also pretty surprised, as these two just struck me as a couple of twats - sorry, there’s no other word for it - who probably wouldn’t get seriously violent. I mean, that’s why I felt confident enough to take the guy’s picture. More fool me.)

The good news is that the cops can use my picture in the hunt for these two, and they are going to try to get it in Metro and as much of the local press as they can. I did get more details about these two, and the investigation, from the cop I spoke to (who was fantastic, btw), but I wouldn’t want to compromise their efforts, so I’m keeping certain things to myself. All I can say is, I look forward to getting back from New York and hearing that these two are behind bars.

  1. I don’t think the wheels of british justice turn that quickly. Tho’ if you’ve got a free evening in nyc I can recommend a visit to the night court hearings till 1am most days (depending on caseload) for a look at an admirable justice system in action.

  2. It’s terrible that someone else was attacked by these thugs, and I’m glad to hear that the police are really working on the case. Can you tell us how the police decided that the two attackers were the same people? Is it just a visual match between CCTV footage of your attackers and other footage of the thugs that harmed this gentleman? It would be kind of ironic if your higher quality color camera phone picture was successfully picked out of a photo array!

    Take care.

  3. This sounds encouraging. Good.

  4. Gillian, my understanding is that my photo has been extremely helpful. I am going to be giving a statement about the photo - as well as the photo on a CD (remember, the one I emailed them would not be admissable in court, because I didn’t physically hand it to them - retarded) - to police on Wednesday. I will ask for more details then.

Jon, the detective I spoke to gave me his “personal guarantee” that these guys will be caught by the time I’m back from New York. Now, that might not happen, but I believe that he believes it - and he sounds like a man on a mission. I have a lot of faith in this guy, and it sounds like there are several detectives on the case (I know of at least four). Shame about the bureaucracy and law-mandated inefficiency.

  5. Glad to hear there is a progress.

Drop me a line when in NY.

  6. I’m assuming this other incident was after yours. Let’s hear from the people who cried “lynching,” please.

  7. So glad to hear the police are actively working the case as I was a bit worried for a while. I must say the blogosphere looks to be doing an outstanding job in picking this up and spreading the word, so I feel quite optimistic by coupling this with the police pushing it through the traditional press side of things - the little buggers will be caught quickly. It just sucks they have been able to unleash their wrath of hate on other innocent victim in the meantime. But there is always this thing called karma - they will get theirs. I am sure of it.

Be well Jax. Know you are loved and supported on this side of the pond. Continue to fight the fight, and stand up for what is right.

  8. Hope things progress as they should. Have an enjoyable break.

  9. I hope they get nailed. I hope they go to jail. I hope they get the crap beat out of them in jail.

That would be so very, very sweet.

  10. Hope they do get this wee scrote. Metro should help and the coverage this is now getting across London through word of mouth/email/blogcestershire is quite impressive, in a viral marketing of scum kind of way.
Its depressing that it took so long for someone to step in and help you. I’d like to think this was unusual or exceptional in some way, but I don’t think it is.
The only saving grace is that with his cherubic, slightly effeminate looks, he’ll probably be treated to a bit of tender affection from ‘big tam’ in the prison showers.

  11. Poor you Jackie but well done for not being bullied and taking their pic. I’ve passed it on to the blogosphere so everyone can have a swatch at this low life. Sadly Britain isn’t safe anymore, having actually survived the Tube experience you met up with another kind of threat we face on a daily basis.
I’m sorry no one helped you but everyone seems to be watching his own back these days, people have no faith in this corrupt government or their lackeys in the judicial system to protect them. Every situation like this requires one to weigh up pro’s and cons and your chance with a jury down the line.
All kinds of very dangerous people find safe haven and citizenship in Britain these days.
