Vivian Maier

She was a Jewish refugee from France who came to the US and produced a stunning collection of street photography that at once transports the viewer back and yet manages to be shockingly current. “What’s going on here?” one has to ask.
John Maloof discovered Maier’s work after buying 40,000 of her negatives at auction (”From what I know, the auction house acquired her belongings from her storage locker that was sold off due to delinquent payments.”) Maier died just this past April. Thanks to Jason Kottke for the pointer.
