Weekend in the Keys
Okay, not really, but it really felt like it when we spent Saturday night at Pirate’s Cove. I wouldn’t have believed, before being there, that it was possible to feel as if you’re on vacation in Florida while feeling the breeze in a tiki hut on the Ohio River.
As I said about six times over the course of the couple of hours we were there, this place absolutely rocks. It’s such a laidback, relaxed atmosphere, despite it being a full house (though we still managed to get a table as soon as we walked in). The food is inexpensive and casual - shrimp cocktail, burgers, nachos, that kind of thing - but good. I was dreading the appearance of a live band, especially as our table was right next to the stage, but Elaine & The Biscaynes were excellent and a lot of fun. (Thankfully, they played at a volume that didn’t drown out conversation.)
I just can’t believe that we didn’t discover this place until I moved away. Now I have one more reason to visit Cincinnati…
