Digital UK, the body charged with delivering the switch to digital [television], has announced it will dedicate £20m to raising awareness among the UK’s most vulnerable groups. The £20m plus budget is expected to be spent during the switchover period between 2008 to 2012. This is in addition to a £200m marketing spend already dedicated to advertising the switchover to the general public.
For those playing along in the US, £200 million is about $400 million. Yes, nearly half a billion is being spent on letting people know that TV is changing.

They’re expecting to make a lot more money from selling off the analogue channels after they’ve chased the consumer off. I worry more about what the g’ment does with these windfalls.
