Why science is not a public good

I’m so glad this fascinating talk by Terence Kealey at Oxford University was captured on video. Kealey’s latest book, Sex, Science & Profits: How people evolved to make money, goes into this in more detail, but the talk is a very good start. As a commenter here put it:
It’s good to see that criticism of scientific welfare outside of Penn & Teller.
(That said, I’d argue that having such progressive but controversial views espoused by the likes of South Park, Penn & Teller - and, lately, Drew Carey - is very valuable to “the cause”. The more extreme liberty-centric views that are adopted by people viewed as reasonable, the more the center shifts toward more freedom-concerned beliefs.)
