You could make it up, but why bother?

I’m sure someone much smarter than I am has written about this, but I have to wonder whether the extreme prosperity of western society is to blame for the huge number of effing ridiculous efforts to legislate the social and the personal. California is a wonderful place to live, if you can ignore the strong nanny-ish streak that makes certain people raise the alarm about the danger of salad (and boy do I try). I think living in the UK was good preparation for this place. As Jeff Nolan asks:

[A]re these the real priorities we should be setting as a society… salad bars and cars that don’t make enough noise?

  1. ” I think living in the UK was good preparation for this place” … you are so right Jackie! And how sad that it is catching on now with other countries. Is this karma? The UK took over the whole suing- culture from the US, now they get the PC nonsense and “you couldn’t make it up” stuff back from the Brits ;-)
