Just say something you mean, and enjoy the short thoughts, inspirations and mundane details of the people you decide to follow- searching for bloggers and writers you enjoy reading in a bigger format is the way to start. Follow people saying real stuff, not the ones who are just advertising.

How do you find those people? Look for the Twitter widget in the sidebar of their blogs, or go to twitter.com and search for people. (Everyone from Jim “Mad Money” Cramer to Henry Rollins and MC Hammer is twittering.) Even better, join and follow some people you already know, and let them lead you to other interesting people - just as with this sort of blogging, really.

And, just as with this sort of blogging, you can also lurk and never say a thing yourself. But you’ll get much more out of it if you do.

If you treat work and life as mutually exclusive things, then you should not be surprised to have a work-life balance problem.

A single man and a single woman can definitely be friends without sexual tension, as long as at least one of them is gay or hideously unattractive.

The last country which attempted to legislate over what its population ate was the Soviet Union. It introduced a state cook book and anybody who, like me, has had the misfortune to eat in Moscow recently will know exactly what lasting damage that did to the progress of gastronomy. You can have whatever you like there as long as it’s a dumpling or a pickled cucumber.

What a way to spend a Saturday. All told, my friend J and I hiked for almost five hours - most of that uphill. The good news is, it makes a five mile jog seem like a cakewalk. The bad news is…we hiked for almost five hours - most of that uphill. Still, good thing my current digs here come with a hot tub, because some pre-emptive soaking was most definitely in order when I got home.

I like the idea of third world farmers pulling themselves out of poverty and selling me their products whenever I want to buy them…[W]hy should a loud mouthed self important chef and a bunch of fascistic green activists get to have a say in that? Their craving to impose their will on others should stop being socially acceptable and they need to be called authoritarian thugs to their faces.

So when a friend suggested that a few of us catch a Friday afternoon matinée, it sounded like a great idea to me. She wanted to see Baby Mama, for which I had low expectations. Still, better than being dragged to something gross like Speed Racer.

I didn’t love Baby Mama, but I did enjoy it. Tina Fey looked beautiful in every shot, and her clothes were to die for. I spent much of the film pondering the absolute perfection of her hair. I know that’s not why you go see a movie, but that alone made it worth the $7.50 for me. (Don’t ask me why she looks so much like Mariska Hargitay in the photo here.)

Bonus: The movie was kind of funny, too. I laughed out loud quite a lot, but it didn’t exactly slay me. Good enough for me. Steve Martin nailed his part. Oh, and I almost cried at the end. The three female friends who were with me almost administered a severe beating when I told them that. Ballbreakers!
